2021 Himmelreich Blaufränkisch

Dark fruit with a cool pulse.

In the glass, a dark, almost exotic world unfolds: juicy black cherry and cassis, with a cool hint of eucalyptus, some cocoa and black pepper. The fruit appears ripe and concentrated, but never sweet or heavy. Fine tannins recall the delicate skin of a dark plum. A stony herbal spice gives the wine tension and accompanies it through to the long finish.

In Himmelreich, the approximately 30-year-old vines grow on extremely firm clay marl. They have to force their roots almost through the rock, producing particularly small, intensely flavoured berries. Cool nights preserve their freshness, while the long maturation in French oak deepens the aromas of cocoa, leather, and spices.
