2022 Rothenberg Pinot Noir

"The impressive 2022 Rothenberg Spätburgunder combines perfect fruit ripeness and intensity with clarity, floral nuances, finesse, and elegance. Aromas of black berries, raspberries, cassis, fine roasted notes, earth, salt, and rose petals define the nose. On the palate, it is intense, dense, and almost sweet-tasting, yet at the same time extremely elegant, with silky, smooth tannins and a fine salty acidity. A generous, sensual, and wonderfully harmonious Spätburgunder."

Great depth. Completely without heaviness.

Ripe cherries, raspberries and rose petals rise from the glass, accompanied by a hint of cassis, earth and fine toast. Nothing pushes forward – the aromas appear gradually and merge almost seamlessly. On the palate, the wine glides silkily over the tongue. Its fine tannins provide grip, a slightly salty freshness preserves clarity and carries it into a long, spicy finish.

The combination of power and elegance originates in the Rothenberg, where the vines have been rooting deep in the heavy, clayey Gipskeuper for around 60 years. They bear very few grapes. This allows a particularly concentrated flavor to develop in the small berries. Warm days allow the grapes to ripen fully, while wind and cool nights preserve freshness and fine spice. The long aging in barrique barrels adds cocoa, tobacco and roasted aromas without overpowering the fruit.

When the wine itself is the occasion.

A bottle for evenings where meaning is deliberately given – for a special menu, a cherished guest, or a quiet moment when the glass receives full attention. With a little aeration, the Rothenberg continues to gain in finesse, gradually revealing aromas that were initially hidden.

It accompanies roasted duck, venison, and fine beef as naturally as monkfish, mushrooms, or braised vegetables. Its power supports the food, while its silky texture and saline freshness provide elegance and lightness.
